Event Details

"The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes in the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, usually in this order, and in under 12 hours. These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park."

2011 has been a year of much frustration in the higher education sector. But there has been at least one shining light...or rather, twenty-five. There continues to be a growing community of students around the UK that are working to change the nature of campuses, and to promote resilience and wellbeing amongst their peers.

On the 29th of January, members and supporters of Mental Wealth will be taking on a gruelling challenge in the dark and murky hills of Yorkshire. A 25 mile circular hike from dawn until dusk; longer even than a marathon.

Funds raised will go to the Mental Wealth Foundation to support Mental Wealth groups and related student wellbeing initiatives. For more information about the Mental Wealth Foundation visit here (or join us on the 28th).

To donate to the cause and inspire the participants to train as hard as they can in the build up to the day, click on the Donate button above (or email home[at]mwfnd.org for instructions). All generous sponsors are invited to an event on the 28th January in Leeds to celebrate the accomplishments of Mental Wealth groups during 2011, to look ahead to the new year, and to see off our 3 peak challengers.

Take Part
To take part in the 3 Peaks Challenge a moderate level of fitness is required. It is recommended that you do several walks of 10 miles+ in advance, to prepare for the day, and to test your equipment. Proper hiking boots, a small (day) back-pack, and waterproof clothing are necessary. For those that do not feel comfortable doing the whole 25 miles, but would still like to take part, there will also be a short hike option of about 10 miles.

Participants will leave from Leeds immediately after the Mental Wealth Evening and travel to Horton in Ribblesdale. A comfortable night will be spent in the 'Bunk Room', before the walk begins first thing Sunday morning. At the end of the day transport back to Leeds will be provided, arriving at Leeds Train Station for about 8.30pm.

Note that participation is not just restricted to members of Mental Wealth UK; supporters and partners are also very welcome. To cover the cost of travel and accommodation, participants are expected to raise a minimum of £100.

If you're up for joining us, excellent! Select the above ticket 'Participate' and we will send you final instructions shortly. If you have any queries contact Eddy and Nat at home[at]mentalwealthuk.com or 07904787969.

Whether you participate or not we hope to see you at the Mental Wealth Evening on the 28th of January.
